For a number of years, Carlos Bauer was personal assistant to Spanish movie producer Emiliano Piedra, whose films included those of Orson Welles and Carlos Saura.  Bauer has translated several works of the Spanish poet Federico García Lorca for New Directions and City Lights Books.  Studs Terkel dedicated a whole program to his book, Cries from a Wounded Madrid, Poetry of the Spanish Civil War.  He also translated several works of Henry Miller and Lawrence Ferlinghetti’s A Coney Island of the Mind into Spanish.  His book, San Diego’s First Padres and “the Kid” was chosen by the Governor’s Commission as one of the best books published by a California author in 2019.
